Boston Blotter: Stop That Vespa!

— An alleged bank robber attempted to escape the scene of the crime riding his red Vespa scooter. Police say the suspect raced plodded down the Southeast Expressway after he held up a Citizens Bank in Milton. This renegade didn’t even wear a helmet. [ Herald ] — Marine Corps veteran Ralph Romelus received $225,000 from Somerville after he was allegedly beaten by three Somerville cops in 2006. Romelus was arrested in 2006 for assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest and acquitted of the criminal charges in July 2007. Romelus claimed he was kicked, punched and hit with a flashlight, and referred to as “boy.” Romelus is African-American. [ Somerville News ] —

Police seized cocaine, pills, marijuana and large amount of cash from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7421 in Carver. Two Carver residents and a Plympton man were arrested on drug-related charges. [ WCVB ] — Michael McGunigle of Abington is now being held on $50,000 bail and is charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Brian Cherry, also of Abington, after Cherry’s autopsy ruled his death a homicide. McGunigle allegedly punched Cherry for complaining about his barking dog. Cherry fell after being hit, sustained a head injury and died on Sunday. [ Globe ] All charges alleged until proven under law .
