Green Line Trolley Texter Faces Criminal Complaint

The driver responsible for the May 8 Green Line crash will face criminal charges, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office. Aiden Quinn, the 24-year-old who reportedly admitted to texting his girlfriend while crashing his trolley, was indicted under the charge of gross negligence by a person in control of a train. If convicted, Quinn could face up to three years of jail time. District Attorney Daniel Conley was quoted in the press release saying that train passengers “depend on the driver’s good judgment to protect them, and in the overwhelming majority of

cases that judgment delivers them safely. On May 8, though, good judgment was not present in the driver’s seat.” The DA claims that Quinn blew through yellow and red lights while sending the fateful texts and pulled the trolley’s emergency brake just eight feet away from the train in front of him.The crash cost a reported $9 million in damages and resulted in 62 injuries, including one to a 28-year-old Lynn woman whose fractured pelvis might mean a lifelong disability.
