Photo courtesy Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The Orange Line operator and inspector who managed to stop an Orange Line train just inches away from killing a passenger who had fallen on the tracks were honored today at the MBTA board meeting. The operator, whose name was not released, had been hospitalized for stress following the incident, according to the Herald , but has reportedly returned to work. The near accident, which can be seen here , happened after

an allegedly drunk 26-year-old Cambridge woman fell onto the tracks while waiting for a train after the Celtics game. As a bystander to the incident, this Bostonist is personally grateful to the MBTA operator and inspector for the quick and responsible way that they did their jobs. There is no doubt that they saved a life.
